The Advanced Skills Batting Tee Will Make Your Team Better Hitters!
Used by over 1200 high schools and colleges! The Advanced Skills Batting Tee (AST) is unlike any other swing trainer available. Designed to help experienced players perfect their bat skills and beginning players to learn proper mechanics, a forward arm and outside swing barrier simultaneously eliminate both "dipping" and "casting". And, the height adjustable (24"-40"), movable arm positions the ball anywhere across the strike zone to realistically represent inside and outside pitch locations. Use the Advanced Skills Batting Tee to build a compact swing, keep the "hands inside the ball" and develop a "quick" bat. Use it to increase bat speed and learn to "hit the ball where it's pitched". Includes a two-year warranty!
Why the "Forward Arm"?
In fact, the question should be "Why not a forward arm?". You don't hit the ball over the center of the plate (as traditional batting tees suggest). You make contact in front of the plate. But there are two other equally important reasons to use a forward arm design:
- The forward arm eliminates "dipping" or dropping the hands and trailing shoulder to lift the ball with a "looping" type swing. If you "dip" with the AST, you hit the back of the arm. It forces you to take the bat straight down to the ball, leveling the swing at the point of contact.
- The forward arm also pivots and rotates to place the ball on the inside or outside of the strike zone. Then, the arm points in the direction to drive the ball based on pitch location (i.e. pull the inside pitch, go with the outside pitch to the opposite field..."Hit the ball where it's pitched”).
What is the purpose of the outside barrier?
The outside barrier eliminates "casting". It keeps you form swinging "long" and helps you "keep the hands inside the ball". If the bat or arms are extended prematurely the bat head will slap the flexible upright barrier post. For years coaches have set a tee adjacent to a fence or screen to force hitters to compact their swing. The outside barrier does the same thing except it is a lot more effective. It rotates around the tee to accommodate LH or RH hitters and it moves along with the forward arm to help you keep the hands "tight" when you are working on inside and outside pitch locations. With the outside barrier you are forced to rotate the hips and torso and extend the hands only at the point of contact. It produces a "quick" bat and more power too.
AST Extra Barrier: The outside barrier can also be placed to the rear of the AST. This will further eliminate a level swing plane and force a shorter more direct swing path to the ball. This will also teach hitters to get more backspin on the ball. You can even add an outside barrier to make the Advanced Skills Tee the most complete batting tee on the market. Simply slide on an extra barrier to develop the quickest, most powerful and compact swing possible. Eliminate casting and dropping the hands all in one workout.
What makes it so durable?
The tubing for the AST is molded from polyurethane using a open casting process. What is polyurethane? It's a flexible material like rubber, however, polyurethane is much stronger and more durable than rubber, as much as 10 times more durable. Wheels for roller blades, industrial rollers and dimpled pitching machine balls are among the many items typically made with urethane. It's a great material for products that must withstand impact and stress yet remain flexible. Urethanes are expensive and the AST cost more than a rubber tee but, it will last 10 times longer too. It even comes with a two-year warranty.
Custom Cup Brush/Ball Holder
The AST also uses a replaceable, custom cup brush as a ball holder. The brush, which works equally well for baseballs, softballs or poly-balls, is also more than 10 times more durable than rubber, tube-type ball holders. And, the brush gives you a clean "swish" through the ball with no shock to the bat or hands.
Practical and Portable
The AST can be assembled or disassembled, by hand, for easy storage and transportation. And, it uses a hollow, canteen style base that is filled with sand or water (and sealed with a rubber plug). When filled, the base provides weight for stability and when empty, the base is light and portable. The AST does not include a plate but, you can use it with a traditional or "throw down" home plate or, better yet, combine it with the Muhl Tech Pitch Location Mat to form a complete training station.
Great Tee!!!It is a must to teach players of all ages not to dip and uppercut attempting to lift the ball.. This tee prevents this from happening and created the downward swing path to make them successful hitters. Extremely durable!! I've filled mine with sand in the bottom and beginners will smack the hell out it because of their uppercut swing and it stays upright and sturdy.. This tee is not going to break from getting hit by the bat like other tees I've purchased.. Once they get the hang of a proper swing, my 9 year olds rarely hit the tee... I would purchase this tee again....
This is a great device to help with their swing. It forces a level swing, and if you are the proper distance away, it will force a player not to extend their arms (cast). This will be a great tool for years to come!
Works well to keep the batter from hitting high fly balls. Keeps the arms moving in the right direction for line drives not high fly balls. Also the attached arm helps the coach work several different options for the girls to hit balls that are straight.
LOVE it! We had to put a little electrical tape round the inner pole to keep it from sliding down, but it works great now. Stays put, and has held up to the abuse of my home day care, and my 6 year old's baseball team! Even my two year old can hit off this tee with a foam bat. We spray painted little foot marks on the grass, and then adjust the tee so the kids are always the correct distance from the tee when hitting.
I met Marty Schupak at a baseball coach’s clinic. He was the first to tell me about this tee. I went ahead and bought it and this has been an excellent investment. First thing I took Marty’s advice and filled the base with sand (get play sand) not water. He told me water will eventually smell. Nevertheless, I have two Advanced Skills Batting Tees in my trunk and use them as part of out batting practice routine. I’ve notice improvement from more than half my team.
Advanced Skills Batting Tee by Marty Schupak
I am a big believer in using the batting tee. Since I began coaching youth baseball over 25 years ago, every player on my team is on the tee at every practice. In 2010 I came across the Advanced Skills Tee. This tee is made up of a durable hard plastic.Unlike the traditional batting tee, the Advanced Skills Tee has a “forward arm” and “outside barrier.” This set up helps to keep the barrel of the bat inside the barrier post. In hitting basics, you want the knob to lead the wrist followed by the barrel. This tee helps a lot with this skill. You can fill the base of the tee with either water or sand. I recommend sand or play sand. I have heard from people that use water, it can take on a bad smell after a while. In the first two years I used the Advanced Skills Tee with my team, I saw noticeable improvement. Let's be realistic, there is no magic bullet. But if there are 12 players on my team every year and each spends time on the Advanced Skills Tee, I'd say 8 out of 12 show excellent improvement. So in summing up, I love using the Advanced Skills Tee and endorse it as a great tool for baseball or softball coaches!
